Basin Water 1000 GPM Nitrate Removal System

Project: Basin Water 1000 GPM Nitrate Removal System
Site Location: Plant 132

Executive Summary

The East Valley Water District, located in the San Bernardino Highland, has a service population of approximately 65,000. With a rapidly growing demand for water, East Valley Water District wanted to go beyond the “dodge and drill” approach to water supply by focusing, instead, on areas with abundant groundwater and deal with any contamination issues they might encounter. The district reactivated a well (Plant No 132) with a nitrate contamination in excess of the MCL. In light of a DHS target of 30 ppm and strict Federal MCL standards of 45 ppm, East Valley Water District needed to find a simple and straightforward solution to meet these requirements. The District looked to Basin Water for a turnkey solution to reduce Plant No 132’s high nitrate levels to an acceptable level. Basin Water installed a system with a 1000 gpm capacity in Dec 2003 and treatment followed immediately. The Basin Water system is providing reliable treatment, consistently reducing nitrate levels below 25 ppm (mg/L) with a waste rate of approximately 0.30%. Furthermore, the nitrate concentration in the treated water and price are guaranteed for the life of the contract, in this case, ten years. Basin Water continues to monitor and maintain the system, providing consumables and handling the disposal of the waste residuals as part of the agreed to treatment fee.

The East Valley Water District faced contamination issues that needed to be resolved immediately. Basin Water has proven that it could meet the needs of the District quickly, efficiently and at a cost that is acceptable to the District.
