Biofiltration

Industry and municipal utilities are faced with challenges as they seek to comply with increasingly stringent air pollution regulations and odor complaints. Basin Water offers Envirogen biofilters as an ideal solution for the treatment of air pollutants and for the reduction of odors.

Basin Water offers Envirogen biofiltration systems to safely destroy volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) and odor-causing chemicals using state-of-the-art enhancements in biofiltration. These systems provide an attractive alternative to standard thermal, chemical and adsorptive processes to treat air pollutants safely, reliably and cost effectively, with low capital and operations costs.

Biofilters use naturally occurring microorganisms to treat air containing reduced sulfur compounds, VOCs and other odorous substances. Foul air is collected and sent to the biofilter, and microorganisms use the odorous contaminants for energy and cleanse the air. Envirogen biofilters include the following products:

Built-in-Place biofilter systems - for larger air flow rate applications
Modular package biofilters (P-Series and H-Series) - for small air flow rate applications
Bioscrubber towers - for space-limited applications

For a broad range of influent flow rates and contaminant concentration levels, our fluidized bed reactor (FBR) system is often the most economical treatment choice. With anaerobic, anaerobic and anoxic designs available, systems have been successfully operated at ranges from 5 to 6,000 GPM while simultaneously providing high performance at low capital and operating costs.

Whatever the problem - chemicals, aromatics, alcohols, ketones, chlorinated solvents, PAHs, hydrocarbons, BTEX, perchlorates or nitrates - the FBR system handles high flows at low cost with typical treatment efficiencies of 99 percent or higher.

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) MBR Technical Bulletin

Our membrane bioreactor (MBR) system is particularly well-suited to wastewater or groundwater streams with recalcitrant organics, high contaminant concentrations, highly variable influent composition and/or for sites where system footprint is a concern.

This system offers an excellent solution for in-process, at-source treatment applications and can be used in very demanding applications, including streams not commonly considered amenable to biotreatment.

Envirogen's integrated, fixed-film moving bed activated sludge biological system for treatment of municipal and industrial wastewaters is particularly well suited for retrofit application to existing conventional municipal activated sludge biotreatment installation operating at, or exceeding, its capacity. The SCR is also ideal for achieving nitrogen control or improved nitrogen reduction.

The process is simple in mechanical design, requiring little in the way of instrumentation, controls addition, and no more operator attention and maintenance requirements than the conventional activated sludge system that it upgrades.
